The Astra Film Club invites you on 9 November 2026 at 7:15 PM to Kino Astra in Oborniki Śląskie for a screening of “Nakarmić kruki” (Cría Cuervos), directed by Carlos Saura. This 1976 Spanish drama will be introduced with a talk and followed by a discussion led by Jakub Balcerzak.
The film centers on 8-year-old Anna, played by Ana Torrent. One summer, she struggles with her feelings toward her mother, played by Geraldine Chaplin. Anna, dressed in a red turtleneck, lives in a large house with her two sisters, an aunt, and a grandmother. It is a world full of curious objects, sealed off from reality.
The film blends childhood imagination with local history. It is both a portrait of childhood and a diagnosis of a nation that lived for decades under General Franco's dictatorship. The cinematography is bathed in a green glow that foreshadows autumn. The source description pairs it with Petite Maman by Céline Sciamma, also a story about memory, recollection, and the power of a child's imagination.
A new restored 4K version, prepared for the 50th anniversary of the premiere, will be shown. Made in 2026, it was first presented in the Cannes Classics section of this year's Cannes Film Festival.
Practical information: the running time is 105 minutes and the original language is Spanish. The screening takes place in the Cinema Hall of Kino Astra and will be preceded by an introduction, followed by a discussion with Jakub Balcerzak.
