Piotr Bałtroczyk presents his “STAND UP 2026” show at the Radio Wrocław Concert Hall. The artist claims that the beginning is important, perhaps even more important than the end, though it is nice when the end is just as pleasant. He opens his performance with the words: “Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, my name is Piotr Bałtroczyk and I am an attraction, and you are an attraction for me; without you I would feel at home, alone and unneeded.” This is the only repeated part of the evening. What follows the greeting is a mystery even to Bałtroczyk himself.
The artist once told a journalist that he has about 7 hours of monologue in his head. What he never knows is which material from the “secret drawers of the mind” Bałtroczyk Estradowy (BE), the stage persona, will pick. As he puts it: “Bałtroczyk Estradowy (BE) and Bałtroczyk Zwykły (BZ) remain a mystery to each other, and perhaps this keeps both of them in high fighting spirit, even though each of them can increasingly confirm that old age is not for wimps.” Janusz Grzywacz described BE this way: “words spill out like droppings from a ram.”
Bałtroczyk Zwykły, the everyday version, usually stays silent in a cozy corner, where he devotes himself to reading or vices. He also unsuccessfully tries to devote himself to the journalist, and in the end chooses a vice, a book, or the guitar. He is interested in many things, including:
In the show, the artist recounts what has happened to him since his last meeting with the audience. According to the promo, everything is inspiration, and this is how new fragments of the “national epic” are created. The evening is another version of Piotr Bałtroczyk’s story.
