“Trudne Dzieciństwo” is a stand-up show by Wojciech Cejrowski, based entirely on stories from his childhood rather than from the jungle. His manager (“Manago”) suggested this program to the artist. Cejrowski says that for years his biggest laughs have come when he departs from the script during the show and tells parts of his life story.
According to the artist, his childhood was difficult but far from sad. One of his grandfathers had a glass eye and, when going for a nap, would drop it into a glass along with his false teeth. The other grandfather ran an illegal distillery. At the age of five, Cejrowski bottled what his grandfather produced and served as the taster. His grandfather trusted his sense of smell and taste to confirm the product “doesn't smell of fusel oil.” Today the artist also has godchildren and a sister-in-law.
Stories from the jungle are, as he writes, cheerful and boisterous. With unplanned childhood stories, as Cejrowski puts it, “the hall howls, roars and wets its pants.”
