An Iron Age archaeological site on Skałka Hill in Płakowice near Lwówek Śląski, traces of a Lusatian culture settlement.
The Ancient Cult Rampart in Lwówek Śląski is an archaeological site on Skałka Hill in Płakowice, a district of Lwówek Śląski, dating from the Iron Age and associated with the Lusatian culture.
On Skałka Hill, earthen ramparts, barely visible in the terrain, have survived. Some researchers linked the site to a cult, but it is more likely that a settlement once stood here, surrounded by an earthen rampart with a wooden palisade. German sources described this place as a Slavic stronghold called "Plochowica".
In 1927 a burial ground associated with the Lusatian culture was discovered on this site, confirming the archaeological significance of the hill.
The site was entered in the heritage register under number 291/Arch, by a decision of 25 September 1967.
The hill lies close to the centre of Lwówek Śląski, where it is worth seeing the market square with its town hall, and in the other direction, towards Płakowice, stands the castle in Płakowice. Further on lies Szwajcaria Lwówecka (Lwówek Switzerland).
