About Bochniak

A forested peak of the Bystrzyckie Mountains, 713 metres high, near Międzylesie, with a stone cross from 1628 and a wayside shrine from about 1800 on its slope.

Bochniak, also called Działek, is a peak of the Bystrzyckie Mountains in the Central Sudetes, 713 metres above sea level. It lies about 2 kilometres south-west of Międzylesie, in Kłodzko County.

Terrain

Bochniak has a dome-like shape and gentle slopes, and its summit is flat, broad and poorly defined, rising less than 20 metres above the surrounding terrain. The whole mountain is covered with lower-montane spruce forest.

A cross and a wayside shrine on the slope

On the eastern slope of Bochniak stands a stone commemorative cross, marking the death of a young man in 1628, and a pillar wayside shrine from about 1800, set at a height of about 600 metres.

Water and the watershed

On the eastern slope are the springs of the Kamieńczyk stream, which flows into the Nysa Kłodzka. The continental watershed between the Baltic Sea and North Sea drainage basins runs across the peak.

Surroundings

In Międzylesie itself stands the Marian Column, and a few kilometres away are the ruins of Szczerba Castle.
