About Bożków Palace

A ruined palace in Bożków in Kłodzko County, built as a Renaissance manor and extended over the following centuries by the von Magnis family.

Bożków Palace is a historic residence in Kłodzko County, today badly damaged and visible mainly from the outside. The oldest part of the building dates from the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, and successive owners extended it over the following centuries.

From a Renaissance manor to the Magnis family palace

The building was erected as a late-Renaissance manor at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. The estate changed owners until, in 1780, it passed to the von Magnis family, who remained its main owners for generations to come. Between 1787 and 1791 the palace was rebuilt in a baroque-classicist spirit.

Rebuilding after a fire

In 1870 a fire seriously damaged the building. A year later the palace was rebuilt in the neo-Renaissance style, with the characteristic tower and two wings still visible today.

A park with an artificial ruin

Next to the palace a park has survived, with a late-baroque garden pavilion from around 1800, topped with a mansard roof. The park also contains an artificial ruin with gravestone plaques bearing coats of arms from the 16th and 17th centuries.

Current condition

The palace is entered in the heritage register as a brick building in the Renaissance style. After years of use by various institutions, the interiors have fallen into ruin and are devastated, so the building is not suitable for visiting inside. From the outside, the shape of the building and the surrounding park are still visible.
