Bystrzyca Dolna Palace

Bystrzyca Dolna
About Bystrzyca Dolna Palace

A palace in Bystrzyca Dolna near Świdnica, built on the site of a 16th-century moated castle and rebuilt in the Neo-Renaissance style in the 19th century, today a residential building.

Bystrzyca Dolna Palace stands in the village of Bystrzyca Dolna in the municipality of Świdnica, in Świdnica County, and combines traces of a former moated castle with a Neo-Renaissance rebuild from more than a hundred and fifty years ago.

From moated castle to palace

The residence most likely originated in the 16th century as a moated castle, which was demolished in 1830. The building owes its present Neo-Renaissance character to a rebuild in the 1860s and 1870s, the result of an expansion of a forester's lodge that had previously stood on the site. The wing with the extensive terrace was most likely added in the early 20th century.

Form and surroundings

The building has a rectangular plan, two storeys and a mansard roof with dormer windows. The palace is part of a larger complex: it is surrounded by a park with a pond and oaks roughly two hundred years old, and a monumental gate from 1870 leads into the park. The park also contains a church cemetery, and nearby there is a poplar avenue and a single-row oak avenue from the first half of the 19th century.

Current condition

The palace today serves a residential function. The sources do not specify who uses it or whether the interior is open to visitors - this is worth checking on site. The palace complex, including the palace itself and elements of the park, is entered in the heritage register of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship (the palace under number 1141/WŁ from 25 October 1985, the park under number 1167/WŁ from 28 March 1986, among others).
