A wooden pedestrian and cycle footbridge from 1945, connecting Piasek Island with Daliowa Island over the Piaskowa Lock canal in Wrocław.
The footbridge over the Piaskowa Lock is a wooden pedestrian and cycle crossing connecting two islands on the Oder in the centre of Wrocław.
The bridge runs over the Piaskowa Lock canal, between the right bank, which is Piasek Island, and the left bank, Daliowa Island. It is the only bridge crossing onto Daliowa Island, so for pedestrians and cyclists it is the only way onto the island from the canal side. On the Piasek Island side, the footbridge is reached from Wodna Street and Stanisław Kulczyński Boulevard.
The footbridge was built in 1945. It rests on the walls of the water canal leading to the Piaskowa Lock, on the upper water side of the lock. The structure consists of four single-span steel beams, freely supported. The deck is made of wood, and the railings of steel sections. Only pedestrian and cycle traffic is permitted, hence the name "footbridge" rather than "bridge".
The footbridge lies next to Ostrów Tumski and Piasek Island, a few hundred metres from the Cathedral Bridge.
The Wrocław Market Hall is also close by.
A short walk also takes you to the Cathedral of St John the Baptist.
Beyond Ostrów Tumski lies the Botanical Garden of the University of Wrocław, which lets you combine crossing the footbridge with a walk through the historic part of the city.
