General August Emil Fieldorf "Nil" Bridge

Łany
About General August Emil Fieldorf "Nil" Bridge

A road bridge over the Oder in Łany on the Eastern Ring Road of Wrocław, carrying provincial road no. 372 since 2017.

The General August Emil Fieldorf "Nil" Bridge is a road bridge over the Oder in the village of Łany, on the Eastern Ring Road of Wrocław. It previously bore the working name Siechnice-Łany Bridge.

A structure built without piers over the river

The bridge has a twin-girder box structure and is 286 metres long, with two traffic lanes, one in each direction. It was built using the cantilever method: both parts of the main span over the river's current were raised simultaneously from both abutments, without temporary support, and then joined over the water. The design was prepared by Piotr Wanecki, MSc Eng., of the design and consulting office BPK MOSTY, and the contractor was Skanska.

A new crossing on the eastern ring road

Before the bridge was put into use, the nearest road crossing of the Oder on this stretch was the Grunwaldzki Bridge in Wrocław. Since 2 August 2017, under an order of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, provincial road no. 372 has run across the bridge.

Practical information

  • The bridge is located in the village of Łany, in Wrocław County, on the Eastern Ring Road of Wrocław.
  • It is a road crossing, with no dedicated parking or viewpoint - the bridge is best viewed from the bank of the Oder nearby.
  • Towards Wrocław, about 7 km from here, lie the Centennial Hall and the Japanese Garden, and next to them Szczytnicki Park.
  • In the same area it is also worth seeing the Kotowice Observation Tower.
