A neo-Gothic monument to architect Johann Friedrich Knorr in Juliusz Słowacki Park, renovated in 2017 as a fountain with a lion's head.
The Johann Friedrich Knorr Monument stands in Juliusz Słowacki Park in Wrocław and commemorates the architect whose name it bears. It takes the form of a small, neo-Gothic shrine on a pedestal surrounded by a pool.
The monument was designed by Karl Lüdecke as a neo-Gothic shrine set on a pedestal with a pool at its base. A metal lion's head was placed in the pedestal, from which water once flowed into the pool, and the upper part was decorated with a relief of Knorr's head by sculptor Albert Rachner. The unveiling took place in 1878.
In 1945 the upper part of the monument was removed, and the pedestal with its pool decayed for decades. It was not until 2017 that the structure was renovated, with the lion's head recreated and its function as a fountain restored.
