The third-highest peak in the Owl Mountains (964 m a.s.l.), with a viewing tower, a beech forest reserve and the Dzikie Skały rock formations.
Kalenica is a peak in the central part of the Owl Mountains, 964 metres above sea level. It is the third-highest peak in the range, after Wielka Sowa (1,015 m a.s.l.) and Mała Sowa (972 m a.s.l.).
The peak is built of Precambrian gneisses and migmatites, and its surface is covered with rock scree. On the slopes of the massif are rock formations known as the Dzikie Skały (Wild Rocks).
A steel viewing tower stands on the summit, built in Bielawa in 1932 and erected on Kalenica a year later. It was originally named the Hindenburgturm, in honour of Marshal Hindenburg, and its construction was financed by the Sowiogórskie Society. The tower underwent a thorough refurbishment, completed in November 2022.
On the slopes of the peak is a nature reserve protecting a dwarf beech forest, named Bukowa Kalenica. In the past, in the 1960s, a triangulation tower also stood here.
Two marked trails lead across the summit: a red one, which is part of the Main Sudetes Trail, and a yellow one, linking several towns in the region, including Bielawa and Polanica-Zdrój.
