A Renaissance manor house of the Strachwitz family in Stoszów, today an abandoned ruin closed to visitors.
The manor house in Stoszów is a Renaissance residence in the village of Stoszów, in Dzierżoniów County. It has been falling into ruin for years and is at risk of collapse, so it cannot be visited.
The single-wing manor house in Renaissance style was founded in the second half of the 16th century by Hans von Strachwitz, who died in 1597. It was extended by his son Elias von Strachwitz, and further rebuilding in the 18th and 19th centuries gave the building its present three-wing, C-shaped plan, with two to three storeys.
On the south-western elevation survives a portal with a heraldic cartouche and the initials of Melchior von Gellhorn (1567-1625) and his wife. Above the entrance is a Latin quotation from Psalm 122: "Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces." Inside, the vaults in the entrance hall survive, along with beamed ceilings in most of the rooms and a three-chamber cellar under the west wing.
At the start of the 21st century the last residents left the manor house, and in the summer of 2010 the last tenant was evacuated because of a collapsing ceiling on the first floor. The building has cracking walls, a damaged roof and ceilings at risk of collapse. Since 1960 the manor house has been listed on the heritage register under number A/4726/758.
