A historic lime kiln in Stara Morawa designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, converted into an art gallery rebuilt from 1978.
The Old Limekiln, also known as the Limekiln Gallery "Łaskawy Kamień" ("Gracious Stone"), is a historic lime kiln in Stara Morawa in Kłodzko County, on the road towards Kletno, adapted into an art gallery.
The building was designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel in the early 19th century. It has a six-sided shape tapering towards the top, built of stone and brick, with entrances at the base and narrow windows on two opposite walls.
Since 1978 the building, rebuilt from a ruin, has been run as an art centre by professor Jacek Rybczyński together with his family. The gallery shows their own graphic and painted works, as well as occasional guest exhibitions. The venue hosts symposia, courses, concerts and cultural events.
Among the visitors to the gallery are Nobel Prize laureate Olga Tokarczuk and traveller Arkady Radosław Fiedler. Between 1999 and 2000 the gallery published an irregular magazine, "Stronica Śnieżnicka", with texts by creators connected with the region.
The buildings include a residential house connected to the kiln, surrounded by a Japanese garden, a bell tower and a pyramid. The site is protected by the National Heritage Institute.
Nearby is the Bear Cave, and further on the summit of Śnieżnik and the Earth Museum in Kletno.
