A 1974 bust of Oskar Lange on the grounds of the Wrocław University of Economics, by Władysław Tumkiewicz.
The Oskar Lange Monument stands on the grounds of the Wrocław University of Economics and commemorates the university's naming after this economist. It takes the form of a syenite bust set on a granite plinth.
The monument was unveiled on 2 October 1974, when the then Academy of Economics took the name of Oskar Lange. The sculpture was created by Władysław Tumkiewicz. The bust stands on a wide, single-step syenite podium, and the surroundings are paved with granite slabs. The plinth bears the inscription "OSKAR LANGE" and a dedication from the staff, students and graduates of the university.
Because of Lange's ties to the authorities of the People's Republic of Poland (PRL), the monument has been controversial for years, and part of the academic community has called for its removal. The university has not so far decided to remove it.
