Piastowski Park

Chojnów
About Piastowski Park

The largest municipal park in Chojnów, established in 1885 to a design by Eduard Petzold, with a water tower and a toboggan run.

Piastowski Park is one of two municipal parks in Chojnów, on Wzgórze Chmielowe (Hop Hill) in the southern part of the town. It is the largest wooded recreational area in the town, established in 1885 on the initiative of mayor Richard Müller, to a design by landscape architect Eduard Petzold.

History of the park

The park was created in 1885, when Chojnów's outdated town fortifications were demolished and the town began developing beyond the old line of ramparts. The design was prepared by Eduard Petzold on commission from mayor Richard Müller. The park is owned by the municipality of Chojnów, and its administration on behalf of the mayor is handled by the Economic Development Department of the Municipal Office.

What to see in the park

On the top of one of the hills stands a water tower from 1915, rebuilt and raised in 1920. In the western part of the park is a stone monument commemorating German soldiers from Chojnów who fell during the First World War. The tree stand, around a hundred years old, is made up of oaks, limes, chestnuts, maples, poplars, hornbeam, pines and beeches.

Recreation and sport

On the slope of one of the hills there is a natural toboggan run. In the northern part of the park there is a children's playground and a complex of multi-purpose sports pitches together with a Street Workout Park, built in 2015.
