A public library for the city and county of Wałbrzych in the historic Pod Czterema Atlantami tenement house on the Market Square, operating since 1945.
The Pod Atlantami Library is a public library for the residents of Wałbrzych and Wałbrzych County, operating since 1945 in a historic tenement house on the Market Square.
The institution is located at number 9 on Wałbrzych's Market Square, in a tenement house known as Pod Czterema Atlantami (Under the Four Atlantes) - this is where the library took its name from. The venue's full name is the County and Municipal Public Library "Pod Atlantami Library".
The building houses separate departments: for adults, for children and young people, and the Department of Scientific Information and Reading Room. The library also runs the Marian Jachimowicz Memory Room, dedicated to the poet, and the Pod Atlantami Gallery, where exhibitions are held.
Besides lending books, the library organises author meetings, discussion clubs for film and books, and exhibitions in the Pod Atlantami Gallery. It also takes part in nationwide reading campaigns, such as National Reading Day. Readers have access to digital catalogues, digital libraries and the SOWA system, in which the availability of items can be checked online.
A few hundred metres away is the Jerzy Szaniawski Drama Theatre, and within a radius of two kilometres is the Stara Kopalnia Science and Art Centre. Those looking for a view over the city can walk from here to the Góra Parkowa viewpoint.
