reservoir below the Table Mountains with bathing sites
Radków Reservoir lies about 2 km southwest of Radków, at the northern foot of the Table Mountains, in Kłodzko county. It is a small artificial reservoir on the Czerwonogórski stream, offering a panorama of the Polish and Czech Table Mountains. Today it forms part of a recreation centre with two bathing sites designated each year.
The reservoir was built in the 1970s as a recreation site for workers of the "Piast" coal mine in Nowa Ruda, which closed in 2000. An earth dam was raised on the Radków side of the Czerwonogórski stream, making use of a natural depression in the terrain at an altitude of about 400 m. The reservoir is small - about 5 ha in area - with a capacity of roughly 0.02 million m³.
Two bathing sites operate by the reservoir, designated each year by a resolution of the Radków municipal council: "BOTANICA ACTIVE PARK" and "Camp Radków" - both run by centres on the shore. The area has holiday cottages, a beach and spots for water sports. The reservoir is stocked with fish, so anglers can be found by the water. A yellow walking trail leads from the reservoir, linking Radków with Pasterka. It is worth checking the GIS Bathing Site Service for the current water status and information on the bathing sites.
The panorama from the shore takes in both the Polish and Czech ranges of the Table Mountains - one of the reasons the reservoir has long drawn visitors looking for a view of the distinctive, table-like rock formations. The surroundings still have a clearly mining-era origin: the reservoir was built for the recreation of workers from the nearby mine, and today this role has been taken over by recreation centres open to all visitors to the region.
This is a good starting point for the Table Mountains and the neighbouring nature reserve:
