dam reservoir on the Kwisa, beaches and campsites
Lake Złotnickie is a dam reservoir on the River Kwisa, stretching between Gryfów Śląski and Leśna, in Lubań County in Lower Silesia. It covers about 120 hectares and reaches a depth of 22 metres. The area around the lake is known for its beaches and campsites, making it one of the more popular spots for recreation by the water in this part of the region.
The reservoir was created in 1924, when the waters of the Kwisa were dammed below Gryfów Śląski. Its capacity is about 12.4 million cubic metres, and the dam holding back the water is about 36 metres high and is itself a viewpoint over the surrounding area. A hydroelectric plant operates at its foot, so the lake, like other reservoirs on the Kwisa and Bóbr, serves a dual function: retention and power generation.
Marinas and watersports equipment hire operate on the lake shores - kayaks and pedal boats can be hired here. Campsites are also located near the reservoir, popular with people looking for a stay close to the water. The stretch of the Kwisa below the dam, as far as Lake Leśniańskie, is considered one of the better fishing spots in the area - it is worth checking the local fishing rules before setting out.
