An active marble and dolomite quarry near Ołdrzychowice Kłodzkie, closed to visitors.
Romanowo Quarry is an active marble and dolomite extraction site, worked by open-pit methods in the village of Romanowo in Kłodzko County, close to Ołdrzychowice Kłodzkie. The pit lies on the eastern ridge of Rychtarzowa in the Krowiarki range, in the Śnieżnik Massif, at an altitude of around 498 metres above sea level.
This is a working industrial facility, operated by the company Omya, with no tourist traffic and no access for outsiders. The dolomite deposit is described as one of the purest and largest in Poland, free of heavy metal contamination, with the resources of the Ołdrzychowice-Romanowo deposit estimated at 33.5 million tonnes. The extracted raw material goes to the chemical and metallurgical industries as a flux, as well as to construction, the production of refractory materials, and pharmaceutical and food-grade dolomite.
In 1974, earthworks in the white marble deposit uncovered a karst cave named Romanowska Studnia Cave. The cave no longer exists, having been destroyed as extraction progressed.
