About Skała

A peak of the Kaczawa Mountains (485 metres above sea level) in the Rząśnik municipality, built of rocks of the Kaczawa metamorphic complex.

Skała is a small peak in the north-western part of the Northern Ridge of the Kaczawa Mountains, in the Western Sudetes, in the Rząśnik municipality, Złotoryja County. It rises to 485 metres above sea level and lies between the peaks of Rogatka and Babiniec.

Composition and landscape

The hill is built of old Palaeozoic metamorphic rocks: greenstones and greenstone schists, and phyllites and quartzites, belonging to the Kaczawa metamorphic complex. On the ridge there are small woodlots, fields and meadows. The peak formerly went by the German name Stein-Berg.

Nearby

Less than a kilometre away lies the peak of Rogatka.

In the Kaczawa Mountains it is also worth looking out for Ostrzyca Proboszczowicka and the neighbouring Ostrzyca Proboszczowicka Nature Reserve.

From the hill it is also a short way to the medieval Wleń Castle.
