A forested peak of the Karkonosze Foothills above Szklarska Poręba, built of granite, with numerous rocks and boulder fields.
Skalnica is a forested peak at the north-western end of the Karkonosze Foothills, above Szklarska Poręba.
The hill is built of Karkonosze granite and reaches just under 680 m above sea level. The northern slope drops steeply towards the Kamienna valley, forming cliffs, while the southern slopes are much gentler. The slopes have numerous rock formations, boulder fields and individual boulders, including the named rocks Głazisko, Dziobata, Piekielnik and Czerwona Jaskinia.
Most of the mountain is covered with forest, but the southern slopes are increasingly taken up by guesthouse development. By the Szklarska Poręba Średnia railway station, on the south-eastern slope, is the Dinopark amusement park. The old German name for the peak was Falsberg.
Not far away rises the Szklarka Waterfall.
In Szklarska Poręba itself is the "Juna" Earth Museum.
A little further on rises the peak of Szrenica.
