Słodowa Bridge is a steel crossing over the Klara Outflow, the only road linking Słodowa Island with the rest of the city. A bridge was already being built here in 1837-1838, and the current structure dates from 1911.
Two different crossings with similarly sounding names cross at Słodowa Island and are easy to confuse. Słodowa Bridge leads from the city area onto the island and is the only road crossing in that direction. The neighbouring Tumski Bridge serves traffic towards Ostrów Tumski, while St Clare's Bridge, standing right next to it, is a completely different, small wooden footbridge, leading further on, from Słodowa Island to Bielarska Island, over the canal of St Clare's mills.
The bridge has a single span in a freely supported beam arrangement, built as a steel structure with riveted joints. Its width is 9.2 metres, of which 6 metres is the roadway, with footpaths 1.6 metres wide running along each side. The span's length is 8.45 metres.
The right bank of the bridge is formed by Słodowa Island, a popular spot for walks and summer gatherings by the Oder, while the left bank is Młyńska Island. From here it is close to Ostrów Tumski with the Archcathedral of St John the Baptist and the Botanical Garden of the University of Wrocław, and in the other direction to the city centre with the Market Hall and Wrocław's Market Square.
