Witków
About St Anne's Chapel in Witków

A brick chapel from 1900 on the slope of Mount Młynarka in Witków, a votive filial church of the parish of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, open mainly for processions and Midnight Mass.

St Anne's Chapel in Witków stands on the eastern slope of Mount Młynarka in the Kamienne Mountains, in the Central Sudetes, and is a votive church of the parish of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Witków.

From a wooden chapel to a brick church

The original wooden chapel was built in 1767, but it has not survived to this day. The present building, made of stone and brick, was erected in 1900. Before 1945 the site functioned under the German names St. Anna Kapelle or Annen Kapelle.

A helmet-shaped turret and the altar of St Anne

The chapel is covered with a roof of ceramic tiles, crowned with a helmet-shaped turret. Inside, in the nave, there is an altar dedicated to St Anne, the patroness of the site.

Processions and Midnight Mass

The chapel serves a filial function in relation to the parish in Witków and is not open on a daily basis. The parish organises processions to it, and on Christmas Eve a Midnight Mass is celebrated here.

Practical information

  • Address: Witków, Czarny Bór municipality, Wałbrzych County, on the slope of Mount Młynarka.
  • Getting there: on foot or by car from Witków, the chapel lies on the mountainside, away from the centre of the village.
  • What to expect: the chapel is often closed outside of processions and Midnight Mass, so it is worth asking the parish in advance about the nearest service. Nearby, about three kilometres away, rises Trójgarb with an observation tower, and a little further stands the palace in Czarny Bór.
