A Catholic church and Jesuit monastery on ulica Stysia in Wrocław's Krzyki district, built between 1979 and 1990 to a design by Zenon Nasterski.
St Ignatius Loyola's Church stands on ulica Stysia in Wrocław's Krzyki district, next to the Jesuit monastery.
The church was built together with the accompanying Jesuit monastery between 1979 and 1990, to a design by architect Zenon Nasterski. The cornerstone for its construction was blessed by John Paul II in 1983. The first Midnight Mass was held in 1988, and the church was consecrated by Cardinal Henryk Roman Gulbinowicz on 13 May 1989.
The building was constructed of brick, reinforced concrete and steel. The church has two levels, with the main nave on the upper storey, also reached by a lift.
The north-western front of the building draws on the tradition of the Jesuit order: it symbolises a tight row of knights equipped with shields and crosses, ending in a semicircular shape.
The church adjoins the "Klasztor" assistant's guesthouse belonging to the Wrocław University of Economics and Business.
Within a few kilometres of the church are the most important attractions of Wrocław's centre: the National Forum of Music, the Wrocław Opera, the Town Hall on the Market Square and the Tumski Bridge.
