St Maurice's Cemetery in Wrocław

Wrocław
About St Maurice's Cemetery in Wrocław

An active Catholic cemetery of St Maurice's parish in the Gaj estate of Wrocław, consecrated in 1940.

St Maurice's Cemetery is an active Roman Catholic cemetery in the Gaj estate of Wrocław, run by St Maurice's parish. It lies on Działkowa street, near a small hill called Skowronia Góra (Lark Hill) - hence its colloquial name among residents, "the cemetery on Skowronia Góra".

The parish's third cemetery

This is already the third cemetery established by St Maurice's parish. The first was created in 1863 on what is now Kamienna street, the second in 1887 between Spiska and Borowska streets - both were closed in 1967 and turned into green areas. The land for the current cemetery was bought in 1934-1935 by Father Paul Peikert, and it was consecrated on 29 September 1940.

Neighbouring a war cemetery

On its eastern side the cemetery directly borders the Soviet Soldiers' Cemetery. The two sites lie next to each other, though they have separate character and separate administration.
