A museum on the grounds of a sugar factory in Pszenno, devoted to the history and techniques of sugar production, with free admission.
The Sugar Industry Museum in Pszenno has operated since 2008 on the grounds of a sugar factory belonging to the Südzucker group, in Świdnica County. The institution was founded in this location partly because the sugar factory in Pszenno lies closest to the first sugar factory on Polish soil, launched by Franz Karl Achard in 1802 in Konary.
The exhibition tells the story of the sugar industry on Polish soil, the raw materials used, above all the sugar beet, and the techniques of production, laboratory testing and methods of storing and packaging sugar. Documents, photographs, images and audiovisual materials complete the picture, and some exhibits date from the first half of the 20th century.
As part of the exhibition, the sugar factory director's office from the early 20th century has been reconstructed. Outside the building, machines and equipment once used for growing sugar beet have been placed, including centrifuges and beet pumps.
Individual visits take place on the second Tuesday of the month, and groups arrange visits in advance. Admission is free. It is worth confirming these rules before visiting by phone or email, since the museum's website does not give current opening hours.
