An outdoor sculpture from 1980 in Juliusz Słowacki Park in Wrocław, opposite the National Museum.
Waiting (Polish: Oczekiwanie) is an outdoor sculpture in Juliusz Słowacki Park in Wrocław, set at the edge of the park by ul. Jana Ewangelisty Purkyniego and plac Powstańców Warszawy, opposite the National Museum.
The installation was made on commission from the Culture Department of the Wrocław Municipal Office in 1979, during a painting and sculpture plein-air event in Twardogóra. It was unveiled a year later, in 1980. The composition was designed by Anna Malicka-Zamorska, and the figure itself was made by Ryszard Zamorski.
The composition consists of two armchairs set on low, square brick pedestals. On one of them, on the eastern side, sits the figure of a young woman. The armchairs have rounded, distorted shapes that emphasise the softness of the furniture and of the figure itself - a conceptual take on the theme, in which the second, empty armchair invites the viewer to complete the scene.
The sculpture was made as fired ceramics at the Ceramic Works in Żarów, at a temperature of 700 degrees Celsius.
The sculpture stands right in the centre of Wrocław, next to the National Museum. Within walking distance are also the Panorama of the Battle of Racławice and the Grunwaldzki Bridge.
