A baroque palace near Legnica, today a hotel with weddings and conferences, linked to a will made out for Henryk Sienkiewicz.
Warmątowice Sienkiewiczowskie Palace is a historic palace in the village of Warmątowice Sienkiewiczowskie, in the Krotoszyce municipality, south of Legnica, close to the A4 motorway.
The building began as a border fortress of the Duchy of Legnica, granted to a local knightly family. In 1748 the castle was rebuilt as a baroque palace. The two-storey building was erected on a rectangular plan and covered with a tall mansard roof, and the main entrance leads through a stone portal flanked by pairs of Ionic columns, topped with a cartouche bearing noble coats of arms.
Among the successive owners were members of the von Zedlitz family and the Olszewski family. Alfred von Olszewski left the palace in his will to the writer Henryk Sienkiewicz, but he did not accept the inheritance. It is after this episode that the element "Sienkiewiczowskie" was added to the village's name.
The palace forms part of a larger estate, which also includes an 18th-century garden pavilion, a park and a farmstead complex with outbuildings.
The palace is not a ruin. According to its official website, it operates as a hotel and events venue, offering accommodation, catering, wedding receptions, business conferences and other functions. It is privately owned.
