A hill in the Mokrzański Forest near Wilkszyn, once a destination for outings among Wrocław's residents, today with the surviving foundations of a former inn.
Wiśniowa Góra is a hill in the northern part of the Mokrzański Forest, already outside the boundaries of Wrocław, in Środa Śląska County. It stands 141 metres above sea level and slopes gently towards Wilkszyn and the Oder valley.
Cherry orchards once grew on the hill's slope, which was then unwooded, and the place took its name from them (wiśnia means cherry in Polish). The German name for the hill is Kirschberg.
In the 19th century several buildings were built on the hill, including the Waldschlösschen guesthouse and the Kirschberg inn. Thanks to the views, the forests and this infrastructure, Wiśniowa Góra was then a popular destination for outings among Wrocław's residents, who took the train to the station in Leśnica and travelled on from there by carriage or on foot. After the Second World War the buildings on the hill were given the Polish name Krzęcin.
Of the former buildings, the foundations and base walls of the inn survive, along with remnants of other buildings. On the slope facing Wilkszyn, new single-family housing is being steadily built.
