A strip of greenery and a walking and cycling route surrounding Wrocław's Old Town along former fortifications, the Municipal Moat and the Oder.
The Wrocław Old Town Promenade is a strip of urban greenery surrounding the Old Town along the former defensive fortifications, running along the Municipal Moat and, for a short stretch, along the Oder. It was created on the site of former fortifications and forms a continuous walking and cycling route around the historic centre of Wrocław.
The promenade begins at the Gen. Władysław Sikorski Bridge and runs along the moat, crossing in turn plac Jana Pawła II, ulica św. Mikołaja and ulica Ruska, the St Anthony's footbridge, a footbridge over the moat, ulica Krupnicza, ulica Świdnicka, ulica Piotra Skargi and ulica Oławska, where the Oławska Gate underpass was built as part of the WZ route. Further on, the route passes aleja Juliusza Słowackiego and ulica Jana Ewangelisty Purkyniego.
A boulevard has been laid out along the banks of the Municipal Moat, Gondola Bay and the Oder, running along the river as far as bulwar Xawerego Dunikowskiego up to the Piaskowy Bridge. The promenade surrounds the Old Town in a ring from the west, south and east, and the ring is closed on the north by the Oder itself.
Walking avenues and cycle paths have been marked out on the inner side of the moat, on the middle stretch on the northern side. On the opposite side of the moat, ulica Podwale runs along a considerable stretch, except for the section leading through Juliusz Słowacki Park and the stretches along Gondola Bay and the Oder.
The route runs near the most important monuments of the Old Town: the Market Square, the Wrocław Town Hall and the Panorama of the Battle of Racławice. Along the Oder it is worth turning towards Tumski Bridge, and heading south to reach the Botanical Garden of the University of Wrocław.
