About Zameczna

A hill in the Owl Mountains (618 metres above sea level) with an unmarked ridge route to Wielka Sowa and traces of former mining works.

Zameczna is a hill in the north-western part of the Owl Mountains, in the Central Sudetes, within the Owl Mountains Landscape Park. It is 618 metres above sea level and lies about 2.5 km north of Kamionki, not far from Rościszów in Dzierżoniów County.

History and name

The mountain formerly bore the German name Burgsberg (Burgberg). Prospecting mining works were carried out on its slopes in the past.

Composition and the ridge trail

The hill is built of Precambrian gneisses and migmatites, and its slopes are covered by deposits from Pleistocene glaciations. A path runs along the ridge, formerly a popular tourist trail, today an unmarked and little-used route to Wielka Sowa from the direction of Rościszów and Pieszyce.

Nearby

Less than 5 km away, on the summit of Wielka Sowa, stands an observation tower.

Further along the ridge route one also reaches Kalenica, with another observation tower.
