A granite and glass fountain from 1996 on the western side of Wrocław's Market Square, designed by Alojzy Gryt.
The Zdrój Fountain stands on Wrocław's Market Square, on its western side by Plac Gołębi, in front of the New Town Hall. It is a modern accent right in the heart of the historic old town.
The fountain consists of a rectangular basin lined with granite setts and granite boulders raised in the middle, into which glass panels are set vertically. Water flows down these panels. The design is the work of Alojzy Gryt of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław.
The design met with opposition from the start, including from the regional heritage conservator, as not fitting the historic buildings of the Market Square. Despite this, the then mayor of Wrocław, Bogdan Zdrojewski, pushed the fountain's construction through, and it was unveiled on 17 September 1996.
The fountain is within walking distance of the Market Square, the Wrocław Town Hall and the Wrocław Market Hall, so it fits well into an Old Town sightseeing route.
