A 20-hectare park in Wrocław's Złotniki, with traces of early medieval hillforts and recreational infrastructure.
Złotnicki Park covers about 20 hectares in the western part of Wrocław, in the Złotniki estate. It lies between Złotnicka, Żwirowa and Solińska streets, right by the Bystrzyca river, and combines a recreational function with traces of early medieval settlement.
The park's current name has been in use since 1993, based on a resolution of the Wrocław City Council concerning the names of parks and wooded areas. The area is looked after by the Municipal Greenery Board, under the Wrocław City Office. South of the park runs railway line number 275, connecting Wrocław with Legnica.
The park's grounds are covered by a conservation and archaeological protection zone. Two early medieval hillforts from around the 9th-11th centuries have been discovered here, making the park one of the places where Wrocław's history reaches much further back than its well-known monuments.
Between 1991 and 1995 the park was restored to a design by the "Miasto + Zieleń" design studio. On Żwirowa street, near the Złotnicka Footbridge, stands a monument commemorating the residents of the former Złotniki who died in the First World War.
The park has extensive recreational and sports infrastructure: a children's playground, a mini gym, a basketball court, a motocross mound and a track for inline skaters. There are also landscape features: a park pond, small drainage streams with footbridges, and clearings. Nine monumental pedunculate oaks grow here.
A dozen or so minutes' drive further lies Leśnicki Park, and a little further extends West Park, one of the larger parks on this side of Wrocław.
