A private museum in the Walloon Cottage building in Szklarska Poręba, with a collection of over a hundred bottles and several hundred labels from cheap wines.
The Cheap Wine Museum is a small, privately run venue in Szklarska Poręba, housed in the Walloon Cottage building. Instead of works of art or historic furnishings, it displays something quite different: a collection of packaging from the cheapest wines once sold in Polish shops.
The museum displays over a hundred bottles of cheap wine and several hundred labels for them. The collection illustrates the aesthetics and naming conventions of this type of drink, documenting the history of design and marketing more than the contents of the bottles themselves.
Part of the collection was donated by the actor and satirist Stefan Friedmann. Thanks to such contributions the collection grew over the years, forming today a set that is, for visitors, above all a curiosity and a trip into the visual history of alcohol trade under communist Poland, rather than an invitation to tasting.
The exhibition occupies rooms in the Walloon Cottage building, a well-known site in Szklarska Poręba. The museum is open during the Cottage's operating hours, so it is worth checking the exact visiting hours on site before your visit.
A few hundred metres away is the Jelenia Góra Power Industry Museum, and slightly closer the "Juna" Earth Museum. A trail towards the mountains leads to the Szklarka Waterfall.
