A reconstructed statue of the goddess Diana from 2015 in Szczytnicki Park, recreating a monument lost in 1945.
The Diana Monument in Wrocław is a reconstructed statue of the goddess Diana, standing in Szczytnicki Park on Zbyszek Cybulski Square.
The original monument, by Ernst Seger, was erected in 1898 in Szczytnicki Park, at the junction of today's Mickiewicza and Wróblewskiego streets. Diana, shown in a hunting scene, stood on a pedestal of boulders, held a spear, and was accompanied by two hunting dogs. The statue disappeared in 1945 under unknown circumstances.
Seventy years later, a decision was made to recreate the monument. The project was taken up by the Society of Friends of Wrocław, the Polish Hunting Association and the city of Wrocław, with residents supporting the venture through voluntary donations. The reconstruction of the sculpture was carried out by Ryszard Zarycki. The monument was unveiled on 10 September 2015, in a new location on Zbyszek Cybulski Square.
The monument stands close to Centennial Hall, the Japanese Garden and Szczytnicki Park. The Wrocław Zoo with the Afrykarium is also nearby.
