A monument to pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer by St Elizabeth's Church in Wrocław, a replica of a Berlin work by Karl Biedermann.
The Dietrich Bonhoeffer Monument stands by St Elizabeth's Church in Wrocław, commemorating the German Evangelical pastor and anti-fascist.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, an Evangelical pastor and opponent of Nazism, came from Wrocław. The monument stands in his birth city, in front of St Elizabeth's Church, which until 1945 was the main Evangelical church of Wrocław and Silesia.
The Wrocław monument is a replica of a work by the Berlin sculptor Karl Biedermann, which stands by the Zionskirche in Berlin. The Polish copy was unveiled on 24 April 1999.
The monument takes the form of an anthropomorphised cross, a symbol of human suffering and victory combined with the cross of Christ. Two dedication plaques, in Polish and German, are placed in front of the monument.
