A monastery ethnographic collection of the White Sacred Heart Fathers in Sokołówka, with exhibits from Peru, Zaire, Tahiti and Easter Island.
The Ethnographic Missionary Museum in Polanica-Zdrój is housed in the monastery of the Sacred Hearts Fathers (SSCC) in Sokołówka, near Polanica-Zdrój, and is run by the Christus Rex Missionary Congregation.
The congregation took over the Mission House in 1927, and the museum itself was founded in 1977. Since 1994 a monument to Blessed Damien de Veuster, the missionary who died of leprosy while working among the sick, has stood in front of the congregation's building.
The collection includes exhibits brought from Peru, Zaire, Tahiti and Easter Island: costumes, ornaments, musical instruments, sculptures and everyday objects. The tour is accompanied by a display of photographs from the countries the exhibits came from, so the objects can be viewed together with the context of the place they arrived from.
Sokołówka is within walking distance of the centre of Polanica-Zdrój and its Spa Park, and families with children can combine a museum visit with a stay at FunPark Polanica-Zdrój.
