A closed Jewish necropolis in Chojnów, owned by the town since 1944, today a place of remembrance.
The Jewish cemetery in Chojnów is a former necropolis of the local Jewish community, today closed and preserved as a place of remembrance.
In the 1940s the cemetery passed into the ownership of the Reich Association of Jews in Germany. In 1943 the mayor of Chojnów considered purchasing it, and in January 1944 the town became the owner of the necropolis.
The cemetery grounds covered 727 square metres. The property was valued at the time at 218.10 German marks, which resulted among other things from the lack of transport access to the plot.
The cemetery is closed today. In the 1950s the local Jewish congregation looked after the necropolis.
A few hundred metres away is the Regional Museum in Chojnów, where you can learn more about the town's history.
Close to the cemetery also lies Piastowski Park, a good place for a walk after your visit.
