An active Roman Catholic cemetery in the Klecina neighbourhood of Wrocław, consecrated in 1878, formerly shared by Protestants and Catholics.
Klecina Cemetery is an active Roman Catholic cemetery on Zabrodzka Street, in the Klecina neighbourhood of Wrocław. It was established in the second half of the 19th century and has continuously served its function since then, today under the care of the parish of Our Lady, Queen of Poland.
The cemetery was consecrated in 1878. At that time it served both Protestants and Catholics living in Klecina and the neighbouring villages. Until 1945 it was administered by the Protestant parish of the Saviour from Wrocław, and after a church was built in Klecina in 1906, by the local Protestant parish. After 1945 the cemetery passed into Catholic hands, and it has remained so to this day.
Actors connected with Wrocław are buried in the cemetery: Artur Młodnicki (1911-1972) together with his wife, as well as Zdzisława Młodnicka (1924-2009) and Medard Plewacki (1929-2021).
Klecina is today one of the southern neighbourhoods of Wrocław, formerly an independent village incorporated into the city. The cemetery is one of the few places that testify to this earlier, multi-denominational history. Anyone looking for other traces of multicultural Wrocław can visit the Old Jewish Cemetery in Wrocław.
