A free zoo on the grounds of the former Wrocław Park in Lubin, with themed educational trails and natural monuments.
The Lubin Zoo occupies 14.47 hectares of the revitalised Wrocław Park in the city centre. Admission is free all year round, and themed educational trails run through the park devoted to different groups of animals, from Poland's wild fauna to animals known only from reconstructions.
The zoo was established on 14 May 2014 by decision of the General Director of Environmental Protection, on the grounds of the revitalised Wrocław Park, and its official opening took place on 1 June 2014. The facility was initially managed by a municipal unit called the Centre for Nature Education in Lubin, which on 1 January 2023 changed its name to the Lubin Zoo. It is the third zoo in Lower Silesia.
According to 2024 data, 339 animals from 81 species live in the zoo. The "Fauna of Poland" trail presents thirty species of native wild animals and breeds of farm animals, including eagles, storks, owls and cranes. The bird trail shows about sixty species, including a large collection of pheasants as well as red-crowned cranes and Ural owls. The farm animal trail focuses on native breeds, such as white-backed cattle, Carpathian goats and Green-legged Partridge chickens. A separate trail is devoted to extinct animals and presents dinosaur models and reconstructions of Ice Age animals, including a woolly mammoth and a sabre-toothed tiger.
15 of the 34 natural monuments located in Lubin grow within the zoo grounds, which makes a walk around the zoo also a walk through the historic tree stand of the former Wrocław Park. The facility carries out educational activities, publishes its own materials for visitors and since 2018 has belonged to the Council of Directors of Polish Zoological Gardens and Aquariums, which allows it to take part in exchanging experience with other Polish zoos.
The themed trails are laid out so that a visit to the park combines a walk with elements of nature education, which is why the zoo in Lubin is popular with school trips and families with children.
After visiting the zoo you can walk over to the neighbouring Rope Park.
The Historical Museum in Lubin is also nearby.
For children it is worth visiting the Hoppark Lubin Trampoline Park.
