A museum in four locations in Lubin: the Town Hall, Park Leśny, the grounds by the railway station and the Pałacyk Gallery.
The Historical Museum in Lubin is an unusual institution, as instead of a single building it has four branches scattered around the city. It was established by a resolution of the city council and opened to visitors in May, and a year later it was merged with the "Wzgórze Zamkowe" Cultural Centre. It attracts about 360,000 visitors a year, making it one of the most visited cultural institutions in the region.
The main seat is in the historic Town Hall at Rynek 23. Two permanent exhibitions are shown here: "The History of the City Against the Backdrop of Everyday Life", showing the life of Lubin's residents in the twentieth century, and an exhibition devoted to the Lubin Crime of August 1982, one of the most tragic events of martial law in Lower Silesia. The same part of the collection also covers themes of sport, culture and the region's cartography.
The second branch operates seasonally, from 20 March to the end of October, in Park Leśny at Gajowa Street 25. The main attraction is a full-scale replica of the ORP Orzeł submarine, alongside an educational trail devoted to the Great War of 1914-1918 and an exhibition on the Soviet occupation of Poland. The grounds are completed by a rope park and a balance course, so the site is also suitable for a family trip with children.
At the railway station, on the grounds along Kolejowa Street, there is an open-air exhibition "Lubin Pioneers 1945" with a restored Ty2-22 locomotive, opened in 2022. The youngest branch is the Pałacyk Gallery at Maria Skłodowska-Curie Street 6, launched in 2023 with an exhibition of works by the painter Jerzy Duda-Gracz. The gallery today operates as a space for temporary exhibitions, so it is worth checking on site what is currently on show.
Close to the Town Hall stands the castle chapel in Lubin, and the theme of the Lubin Crime is completed by the Memorial to the Victims of Lubin '82. For families with children there is also the Lubin Zoo nearby, and enthusiasts of regional history can round off their visit with the Jan Wyżykowski Museum of the Lubin Region.
