A museum in a historic town house in Zgorzelec, established in 2007, with a permanent exhibition presenting a Lusatian cottage from the 18th-19th centuries.
The Lusatian Museum in Zgorzelec is a municipal organisational unit housed in a historic town house on Daszyńskiego street.
The museum operates in a brick town house from the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, listed in the register of immovable heritage monuments (entry number 1313/J from 24 September 1997). The building lies within the Zgorzelec urban municipality.
The museum was established in 2007. The initiative to set it up came from the Polish Euroopera Association, and the local authorities handed over the building for this purpose in 2003, after which it was renovated until 2007.
The permanent exhibition opened on 19 March 2010. It presents the interior of a Lusatian cottage from the 18th and 19th centuries, with authentic architectural elements and furnishings, some of the exhibits borrowed from the Municipal Museum in Görlitz.
Alongside the permanent exhibition, the museum also runs temporary exhibitions devoted to the ethnography of the Lusatia region, including ones showing the social changes of the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, and visual art connected with the local landscape.
Nearby, on the other side of the Lusatian Neisse, is the Zgorzelec-Görlitz Old Town Bridge, and not far away also stand Jacob Böhme's House and the Orthodox Church of Saints Constantine and Helena in Zgorzelec.
