About Monument to the Storm Detachments in Wrocław

A partly preserved Nazi monument from 1937 in East Park in Wrocław, dedicated to the SA units.

The Monument to the Storm Detachments, also known as the SA Monument, is a partly preserved Nazi monument in East Park in Wrocław, dedicated to the paramilitary SA (Sturmabteilung) units of the Third Reich.

Origin and purpose

The monument was designed by Richard Konwiarz in 1935 and unveiled on 27 June 1937. The site was meant to serve Germanic mass gatherings. The round brick structure housed a commemorative plaque, the emblem of the Third Reich, embedded swastikas, and a bowl for a flame used during ceremonies.

Fate after the war

The monument was not removed after the war ended, but was gradually vandalised over the decades. In 2004 the crumbling structure was reinforced and the place where the swastika had been was covered up.

Practical information
