Kłodzko
About Municipal Cemetery in Kłodzko

An active municipal cemetery in Kłodzko founded in 1892, with a war quarter and historic chapels.

The Municipal Cemetery in Kłodzko is one of the largest necropolises in Kłodzko County. It was founded on 30 April 1892, and today it is an active municipal cemetery with a historic section and a war quarter.

From a Catholic cemetery to a municipal one

It originally bore the German name Neuer katholischer Friedhof and was intended solely for Catholics. In 1945 it was turned into the Municipal Cemetery, available to all residents of Kłodzko, regardless of religion.

War quarter

In the north-eastern part of the necropolis lies a quarter for the fallen and murdered. Polish and Soviet soldiers rest there, as well as prisoners of camps and the fortress.

Historic elements

A stone cross of medieval origin has survived on the cemetery grounds. There is also a wooden cemetery chapel from the early 20th century and a small brick chapel from the 19th century.

Expansion of the cemetery

In 2011 the cemetery was expanded by 180 columbarium niches, and plans assumed a further expansion by 1,100 burial places. The cemetery is managed by the municipality of Kłodzko, using external contractors.
