A museum in Dunino in an 1909 rotunda, dedicated to the 1813 Battle of the Kaczawa, with Napoleonic mementos.
The Museum of the Battle of the Kaczawa is located in Dunino, a small village in Legnica County, and gathers mementos of a clash from the Napoleonic Wars period fought in this area in 1813.
On 26 August 1813, near Dunino, an episode of one of the Napoleonic campaigns took place, known as the Battle of the Kaczawa. To commemorate this event, in 1908 a stone mound was raised from cannonballs collected on the battlefield, and a year later, in 1909, a pavilion in the shape of a polygonal rotunda was built next to the mound.
The 1909 rotunda is a stone structure, entered in the register of immovable heritage monuments under number A/5930 since 2014. In conservation documentation it is listed as an exhibition pavilion, and locally it is also entered in the municipal heritage record of Krotoszyce municipality.
The pavilion houses an exhibition of mementos from the Napoleonic Wars, obtained from private individuals. The exhibits include pieces of weaponry and uniforms, documents and coloured copperplate engravings from that period.
The museum operated until 1945. Activity resumed in 1996, and since then the institution has once again made its collection available to visitors.
A few kilometres from Dunino lies the Krotoszyce Palace, and in Legnica itself you can see the Copper Museum and the Cathedral of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul.
