A stone railway viaduct from the mid-19th century over the Lusatian Neisse, on the Polish-German border near Żytawa and Porajów.
The railway viaduct in Żytawa (Zittau) is a stone, multi-span railway bridge over the Lusatian Neisse, running along railway line no. 346 from Żytawa through Hrádek nad Nisou to Liberec. It is a cross-border structure: it lies mainly on the German side, within the town of Żytawa (Zittau), and is also administratively linked to the Polish municipality of Bogatynia, through which the same railway line runs for about three kilometres, in the area of Porajów.
The single-track bridge was built between 1853 and 1859 from stone. It is 741 metres long and 18 metres high, making it one of the larger engineering structures on this stretch of the border.
The bridge stands over the valley of the Lusatian Neisse, near Porajów - a village in the Bogatynia municipality, from which the nearest roads towards the border lead. Sources do not specify a viewpoint or the rules for accessing the structure itself, so it is worth checking on site.
A few kilometres further, towards Bogatynia, there is a view of the mine and power plant and the area of the Turów Lignite Mine.
