About Rozstaj

A dome-shaped peak in the Owl Mountains about 695 metres high, near the Three Borders Stone and the village of Jemna.

Rozstaj is a peak in the Owl Mountains, in their eastern part, in the Central Sudetes. It lies near the village of Jemna, in Ząbkowice County, and reaches a height of about 695-696 metres above sea level (the source article gives 696 m in a summary table and 694 m in the description).

Terrain and nature

The mountain has a dome-like shape and steep slopes with a clearly marked summit. It is built of Precambrian paragneisses and migmatites. The slopes are covered with lower-montane spruce forests with an admixture of deciduous trees. The peak lies within the Owl and Bardzkie Mountains Protected Landscape Area.

Origin of the name

The name Rozstaj (meaning "crossroads") comes from the fact that the mountain lies between the crossings of forest tracks. West of the summit, at one such crossroads, stands the historic Three Borders Stone.

Surroundings

Within a few kilometres of Rozstaj lies the Srebrna Góra Fortress, and trails through the Owl Mountains also lead to neighbouring peaks, including Kalenica and Wolibórz Pass.

Practical information

  • Location: near the village of Jemna, Ząbkowice County, Owl Mountains
  • Access: forest access roads from the direction of Srebrna Góra or Jemna
  • The sources do not mention a marked trail to the summit itself - it is worth checking the route before setting out, for example on a tourist map of the Owl Mountains
