A pedestrian and cycling footbridge from 2003 connecting Słodowa Island with Nadodrze, suspended on stay cables over the Northern Oder.
Słodowa Footbridge connects Słodowa Island with the Nadodrze estate, spanning the Northern Oder (Odra Północna) near Drobner Street and Bulwar Słoneczny. It serves pedestrians and cyclists.
The footbridge was built in 2003 as part of a programme to develop the islands of the Śródmiejski Węzeł Wodny (Downtown Water Junction). The design was produced at the Tomasz Boniecki Design Studio and at ISBA, based on an idea by J. Bliszczuk and T. Boniecki. The investor was the Road and Transport Authority of the Wrocław City Office, the general contractor was KPRM Skanska S.A., and the stay cables were supplied by BBR CONA Compact.
The main span over the riverbed is 48 metres, and over the actual current of the Northern Oder - 30.69 metres. Ramps, stairs and reinforced concrete approach ramps lead to the span on both banks. The load-bearing structure consists of two tubular steel girders 450 millimetres in cross-section, arranged in an arch and inclined relative to the vertical axis of the structure, with an arch height of 14.87 metres. The deck, 5.39-6.59 metres wide (over the current itself the usable width is 3.5 metres), is suspended from 20 stay cables clad in stainless steel.
The crossing links Słodowa Island, a popular spot for walks and meetings by the Oder, with the Nadodrze area on the other side of the river. It borders the historic part of the city - nearby are Tumski Bridge and the Market Hall.
