A steel-and-glass viewing tower on the summit of Śnieżnik, put into use in 2022 on the site of a former stone tower.
The viewing tower on Śnieżnik stands on the summit of the highest mountain of the Eastern Sudetes, at an altitude of 1,425 metres above sea level. It was put into use in September 2022, on the site of a former stone viewing tower from over a century earlier.
The earlier tower on Śnieżnik was a stone structure, built between 1895 and 1899. It was blown up in 1973. The idea of building a new tower first appeared in the 1980s, but its realisation took several more decades.
The present tower has a reinforced concrete foundation, and its structure is steel, clad in glass. Construction took 10 months and consumed 100 tonnes of steel. The official opening was carried out by the authorities of the Stronie Śląskie municipality, in whose territory the summit of Śnieżnik lies.
