A baroque palace in the village of Tuszyn near Dzierżoniów, rooted in a Renaissance manor house from 1609, today home to a primary school.
Tuszyn Palace stands in the village of Tuszyn in the Dzierżoniów municipality, in Lower Silesia - this is the Dzierżoniów Tuszyn, not the one near Łódź. The date 1609 on the portal indicates that a Renaissance manor house was built here at that time, later rebuilt into a baroque residence.
The original Renaissance manor house from 1609 was rebuilt between the 17th and 18th centuries, acquiring a baroque character. The building has survived to this day in this transformed form.
The palace has been adapted into a modern school building - it houses the John Paul II Primary School. The interior therefore serves as an educational facility and access to it is limited, while the grounds around the building are open to the public.
North of the palace stretches a historic park, transformed in the 19th century from an earlier ornamental garden. It has a roughly rectangular shape and is bounded on the north and west by a stone wall about 1.5 metres high. Various tree species grow in it, including a lime tree recognised as a natural monument.
Within a few kilometres of the palace lie the hills of the Owl Mountains - Radunia and Szczytna - and in Dzierżoniów itself it is worth visiting the Dzierżoniów City Museum. Closer by, in Kiełczyn, stands another regional residence, Kiełczyn Palace.
